Super meeting in the midst of magical conventions, vacations, and summertime activities. President Chris Faria led the meeting through a quick business segment where we learned Stephen Bargatze would be performing at the Theater of Dreams in late August. Blackthorn's magic store opened in the Citadel Mall and magicians are informally meeting every Tuesday 1900 hours at the top of Phantom Canyon Bar. Chris described the Sanctum card trick series from Sam DuPont and asked for newsletter trick reviews. SAM-talk, Magic Café, Genii Farm and other on-line magic forums were also discussed.
Then the magic started. Arsen, the Renaissance Faire French magician and his assistant Heather Lloyd demonstrated their slight of hand, Matrix effects, and old world style "lapping" magic. Dr Dave showed the Phoenix fire gadget that produced a tower of flame from apparently empty hands. Jade demonstrated the Gypsy peep with a confederate to find a chosen object. Mike did a Triumph card effect. Chris showed a variation of Al Baker's card matching. Bruce Black took a break from his restaurant magic at the Texas Roadhouse and Ruby's to show us the mental effect of card reading using a Sy Stebbins stacked deck. Max demonstrated MacDonald's aces routine and Blackthorn did the classic "Do As I Do" routine with 2 card decks. Justin Carmical wowed us by demonstrating his anniversary card effect where he found a 2 of Diamonds card that actually held 2 diamond stud earrings for his wife. The meeting concluded and Justin joined the club. |
