The Colorado Springs
Society of Young Magicians (S.Y.M.) |
Harry Houdini helped organize the Society of American Magicians (S.A.M.) in 1902, the oldest magic group devoted to learning and performing the art of magic. In an effort to teach a new generation of magicians, the Colorado Springs Society of Young Magicians (S.Y.M.) Assembly Y103 was formed in 1993. All who have an interest in magic are welcome to join us. Members are ages 7 to 17.
We meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month from 6:00 to 7:00 PM (2nd Tuesday in November and December) at:
Location:
Sand Creek Police Station
4125 Center Park Drive
Colorado Springs, Colorado 80916

Membership - There are no local dues, but members of the Colorado Springs S.Y.M. are required to join the International S.Y.M. under the Society of American Magicians. Children may attend several meetings to ensure their interest and commitment to the group before joining the International S.Y.M. Dues for S.Y.M. are only $20.00 per year. Members receive a membership card, membership pin and a monthly publication, "The Magic SYMbol". Written especially for young magicians, it features news about the youth program and articles by well-known magicians, including David Copperfield and Lance Burton. Also included are easy-to-perform magic tricks and advice on how to grow and become proficient in the Art of Magic.
Sponsoring Organization - Our Sponsor Organization is the Pikes Peak Prestidigitators (PPP), Assembly 170, a local group of magicians formed under charter with the Society of American Magicians, (S.A.M.). Members of the adult club serve as adult leaders, guest instructors, and mentors to the S.Y.M. members. The S.Y.M. Assembly Leaders are Dick Bowman and Dave Wintermute.
Meetings - The young magicians learn new magic tricks and get tutored by adult magicians on how to perform magic. Parents are welcomed to attend with their child. The young magicians are requested to purchase the "The Mark Wilson Course in Magic", which is used as a textbook, it is available on the web or through the group. The adult group, the Pikes Peak Prestidigitators, is open to interested adults from 18 and up, and follows the S.Y.M. meeting at 7:15 PM.
For More Information - Call Dick Bowman at (719) 527-0678 or email for more information. For more information on our national S.Y.M., go to: http://www.magicsym.com
